Omega-3: why is it essential to diversify sources?

Omega-3s are now considered essential for overall well-being.

As global demand continues to grow, one question becomes increasingly important:
Can we really rely on a single source of omega-3 to meet future needs?

At Seanova, we believe there is not just one solution, but several complementary sources:
Fish oils remain one of the main sources of omega-3 today, offering highly effective nutritional profiles and excellent availability.
Krill provides very interesting specific properties, particularly thanks to its natural richness in phospholipids and antioxidants.

Microalgae oils represent a major step forward in developing plant-based alternatives and reducing dependence on traditional marine resources.

However, believing that microalgae alone will be able to replace all other sources is not realistic today.
The industrial production of microalgae oils mainly relies on heterotrophic cultivation (fermentation without light input), a process that requires significant energy resources.
Microalgae also need carbon sources to grow, often derived from terrestrial resources such as corn.

The truly sustainable approach is therefore to diversify omega-3 sources intelligently rather than shifting all the pressure onto a single supply chain.

Diversifying sources means:
✔ better securing supply chains
✔ avoiding dependence on a single source
✔ reducing pressure on ecosystems
✔ supporting market growth in a more responsible way
✔ meeting a wider range of consumer needs

The future of omega-3 will be diverse, complementary, and innovative.
