Astaxanthin,
the ultimate
natural antioxidant

In partnership with Algamo, Seanova offers a high-quality astaxanthin oleoresin, extracted from the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis. Astaxanthin, considered one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants, is now a key molecule in dietary supplements and cosmetics.

What is astaxanthin?

Astaxanthin is a red-orange carotenoid pigment naturally produced by certain microalgae, including Haematococcus pluvialis.

Other sources of natural astaxanthin include salmon, krill and Phaffia yeast. Salmon and krill are not primary producers of astaxanthin; they acquire it through their diet.  Wild salmon is known to be a good source of astaxanthin, but to obtain 8 mg of astaxanthin a day, you need to eat 400 to 800 grams of salmon a day.

Haematococcus pluvialis is therefore the richest natural source of astaxanthin. Today, most natural astaxanthin producers produce astaxanthin from this remarkable single-celled freshwater microalgae.

It is of plant origin and suitable for vegetarians.

There are, however, differences in quality. So you need to check where and how astaxanthin products are made.

Astaxanthin, « the king of carotenoids »

Astaxanthin is known for its remarkable ability to neutralize free radicals, responsible for oxidative stress and numerous chronic conditions. Unlike other antioxidants, astaxanthin is effective at low doses and is highly bioavailable.
Studies have shown that it has a higher antioxidant capacity than other popular carotenoids such as beta-carotene, lycopene and lutein. That’s why it’s often called “the king of carotenoids”.

The benefits of astaxanthin

Scientific studies have shown that astaxanthin has beneficial effects on all major parts of the body, including the musculoskeletal system (muscles, joints, tendons), the cardiovascular system, immunity, eye health, the brain and the skin.

Supporting eye functions

Astaxanthin improves blood circulation to the retina and protects eye cells from UV damage.
It helps reduce visual fatigue, particularly in people who work for long periods at a computer screen.

Skin health

Thanks to its antioxidant properties, it combats the signs of skin ageing by reducing the impact of free radicals.
Astaxanthin also strengthens the skin barrier, improving skin hydration and elasticity.

Cardiovascular protection

This carotenoid helps reduce lipid oxidation in the blood, a key factor in the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Muscle health and recovery

Astaxanthin limits inflammation and muscle soreness after intense effort, making it an ingredient of choice for athletes.

Boosting the immune system

By acting on immune cells, astaxanthin stimulates the body’s natural defenses.

Brain and Mental Health

Astaxanthin’s versatility makes it ideal for a wide range of applications, from dietary supplements to cosmetics.

Environmentally-friendly production

Algamo’s astaxanthin is produced using environmentally responsible processes that preserve the integrity and efficacy of the active ingredient.

The cutting-edge technology used to produce astaxanthin is based on the cultivation of algae in a fully controlled environment, using closed photobioreactors. This innovation guarantees total control of the entire process, with rigorous controls at every stage of production, enabling high quality standards to be maintained throughout the cycle.
